J&B Hopkins’ employees have been supporting Southampton and Portsmouth City Council’s drive to stimulate apprenticeships in the local area. Employees from all areas of our business, including our apprentices, took time out to attend the Careers and Apprenticeship Show 2019 hosted at Southampton Football Club and Portsmouth Football Club.

Apprenticeships are a credible route in to the world of work, with the opportunity to gain up to a degree level qualification alongside gaining on-the-job experience with an employer. With 10% of our workforce currently carrying out an apprenticeship we know how important it is to invest and support careers!

Should you require any further information on our available Apprenticeships, please contact our HR Manager, Tim Samuel on 01489 584706.

We are proud to announce our in-house wellbeing committee will be attending the 2 day mental health first aid course with all 9 representatives trained by May 2019. This training will provide invaluable understanding of mental health and the factors that can affect wellbeing, along with practical skills to spot the triggers and signs. It will also ensure our members feel confident to step in, reassure and support a person in distress and help guide them to further support (whether that’s self-help resources, the company’s employee assistance programme or via the NHS).

Just one way J&B Hopkins are trying to make a difference in reducing the stigma around mental health and getting people talking openly and comfortably.

We took the opportunity to get 120 members of Hopkins staff, along with a few suppliers together for an entertaining evening watching Hampshire win the T20 match v Gloucestershire on Friday 17th August at Ageas Bowl, Southampton. Thank you to everyone who attended and making it an occasion to remember.

Enjoyable two days at Silverstone watching the racing in the sun, with the added bonus of the football on the Saturday! Thank you to all of our clients who attended and making it an occasion to remember.

Thank you to all of our Hopkins staff, clients and suppliers who supported us for another successful and enjoyable day at Meon Valley Marriott Hotel and Country Club.

Congratulations to the 18 trophy winners, it was a very competitive and keenly contested golf day.

We look forward to next years event.

J&B Hopkins are always actively looking for young and driven individuals to join the Hopkins team as an apprentice, offering our staff opportunities to progress their careers. We offer professional training courses to support the development of career paths for talented individuals.

We also employ 4 mechanical trade apprentices and 4 electrical trade apprentices. All apprentices attend Southampton City College and are undertaking NVQ Level 2 courses for their respective trades.

We employ other trainees within our estimating department. In addition our directly employed Assistant Project Managers support our Contacts Managers and Project Managers with the administration of our internal Quality Management Systems.

J&B Hopkins were delighted to be awarded the prestigious Kier Southern ‘Subcontractor of the Year’ award for 2015. The award was given to our Chairman Paul Hopkins during the Kier Southern Charity Supply Chain Conference and Awards event at The Lingfield Park Country Club in Surrey.

The recognition  was especially pleasing as it was contested by all trades on the Kier supply chain throughout the Southern region and not just our piers in the services industry. The recognition of our staffs’ continued level of commitment, which is offered as standard to all of our customers, is a welcome accolade.

To raise funds for ‘The British Heart Foundation’ our Managing Director, Phil Lambden, embarked on the ‘My Marathon’  challenge to run 26.2 miles in May 2016 to help fund life saving heart research.

Phil managed to raise an amazing £2300 and came third in the country for fund raising, out of nearly 21840 people running the event.

Phil would like to thank all who have supported the charity, The British Heart Foundation, and for the support and encouragement to achieve his goal.

A top Hampshire contractor has just been awarded their largest contract to date in Chichester, West Sussex, and Hopkins were fortunate enough to have the opportunity to review the scheme in the early stages of the tender process. By engaging the vast experiences of our design and engineering departments we were able to make the necessary recommendations to allow the scheme to become attractive to the Client and their strict budgetary constraints and secure the project.

It is a new build fast track project with further opportunities on the same site being afforded in the future.
