At the glittering, Oscars – style Southampton City College awards ceremony in November, J&B Hopkins was selected to receive 1 of just 2 Employer Recognition Awards.

These awards recognise businesses, from across the region, that have consistently shown a commitment towards the training and personal development of their own workforce as well as supporting college student’s development through providing support such as work experience and careers advice.

This is terrific recognition of the Company’s desire to invest in our staff and the community. ‘Well done’ to all staff, trainees and apprentices for representing the Company in a way that has been recognised externally and for the positive energy given which has been clearly identified by the panel of award judges at the College.

Hopkins clients recognise its great strengths, especially in design and build projects, and drive for engineering excellence every time.

As a responsible employer Hopkins have always had a strong commitment to develop and train its staff, indeed their first apprentice still works for the company.

At J&B Hopkins we have recently decided to refurbish our head office based in Fareham, Hants. We have introduced larger working spaces, new equipment such high tech printers, more meeting rooms for our staff and visitors and luxury water dispensers that at a push of a button produce hot water, ice cold water and sparkling water. We also have plans to build a gym and showers for all employees to enjoy before and after work.

Congratulations to Ian Brunsdon who has been awarded ‘Operative of the Month’ in the Farrans ‘Safety First’ campaign at Chichester Free School.

Ian is our senior site supervisor who is responsible for the overall health and safety on site including direct labour and supply chain partners.  He has worked alongside Farrans to eliminate any health and safety issues.

Ian was presented with his framed certificate and engraved glass bowl by Jenny Clough, head teacher at Chichester Free School and Dave Inglis, construction manager for Farrans.

J&B Hopkins were delighted to receive the ‘Construction South Supply Chain Contractor of the Month’ from Morgan Sindall in February 2018. The award shows recognition of the commitment put into the Larkhill and Portswood developments by the Hopkins teams.

The award further demonstrates that early engagement, of the services design and build contractor, combined with the collaborative working by the site teams ensures the best opportunity of a successful project.

Our trainee and apprenticeship offerings are devised to give people’s career the best possible start. They provide a mix of ‘real world’ experience and off-the-job development, enabling people to earn at the same time as learning a trade or profession.

All trainees and apprentices are supported by an internal mentor to provide an additional level of development support beyond that covered by the other mechanisms of their training and development. Our mentoring scheme provides a formal platform whereby a mentor and mentee can create a confidential mentoring partnership aimed to assist the mentee to achieve personal and professional growth.

Depending upon an individual’s education level and career choice there may be an opportunity to work up to degree level.

Our trainee/apprentice roles include:

10% of our workforce is made up of trainees / apprentices and we continue to search for those rising stars local to our office and projects.
