After another challenging year in the industry Hopkins have strived to improve the systems, management and implications of our Health and Safety System to ensure that all of our staff, site operatives and sub-contractors work safe, stay safe and return home safe after every working day.

We are pleased to be recognised for our efforts and be awarded ‘Health and Safety Excellence’ from HCS Safety for an overall 100% score for the year (albeit a little delayed due to the pandemic!) and we wish to open our thanks to all of our staff and supply chain.

We are proud to announce that we are continuing with our commitment around the wellbeing of our staff and this month we have had a number of our site staff trained as Mental Health Champions. Fully supported by our Mental Health First Aiders, our Champions have the knowledge to advocate for mental health and the ability to recognise if someone may need support with their mental health.

Together we continue to build a mentally healthy workplace, ending stigma and discrimination around mental health in the workplace.

J&B Hopkins were delighted to be awarded the prestigious Kier Southern ‘Subcontractor of the Year’ award for 2015. The award was given to our Chairman Paul Hopkins during the Kier Southern Charity Supply Chain Conference and Awards event at The Lingfield Park Country Club in Surrey.

The recognition  was especially pleasing as it was contested by all trades on the Kier supply chain throughout the Southern region and not just our piers in the services industry. The recognition of our staffs’ continued level of commitment, which is offered as standard to all of our customers, is a welcome accolade.

We are pleased to announce that, following a short absence, two new prestigious high end residential projects have been secured within the last two months on the beautiful island of Guernsey.

The projects have both been awarded by one of the Islands top developers and will once again give Hopkins the opportunity to showcase and establish itself as the Islands top services contractor on large high quality contracts.

Our design team have already visited the first development and the project is now in the pre-construction phase with a start on site date of mid July 2016.

To raise funds for ‘The British Heart Foundation’ our Managing Director, Phil Lambden, embarked on the ‘My Marathon’  challenge to run 26.2 miles in May 2016 to help fund life saving heart research.

Phil managed to raise an amazing £2300 and came third in the country for fund raising, out of nearly 21840 people running the event.

Phil would like to thank all who have supported the charity, The British Heart Foundation, and for the support and encouragement to achieve his goal.

A top Hampshire contractor has just been awarded their largest contract to date in Chichester, West Sussex, and Hopkins were fortunate enough to have the opportunity to review the scheme in the early stages of the tender process. By engaging the vast experiences of our design and engineering departments we were able to make the necessary recommendations to allow the scheme to become attractive to the Client and their strict budgetary constraints and secure the project.

It is a new build fast track project with further opportunities on the same site being afforded in the future.

Hopkins annual Golf Day took place at Meon Valley Marriott Hotel & Country Club’s 18 hole championship course on 30th June 2016.

With support from Clients, Suppliers and Staff entering our Charity Competitions, £440 was raised in aid of Rainbow Trust Children’s Charity.

Rainbow Trust Children’s Charity supports families who have a child with a life threatening or terminal illness. For these families, life is unthinkably tough. Their lives are shattered into a million pieces as they struggle to cope with the possibility that their child might die.

Rainbow Trust has nine teams of Family Support Workers across England who support the whole family, at home, in hospital and in the community. Family Support Workers go wherever they are needed, helping in any way they can, to make life just a little bit easier. They support the whole family including parents, carers, the unwell child, brothers, sisters and grandparents. Because of their support, families are better able to cope and can face the future, whatever it may hold.

Rainbow Trust relies heavily on voluntary donations and through the generosity of supporters they currently help around 2,000 families a year.  Rainbow Trust’s vision is that one day all terminally ill children will have access to a Rainbow Trust Family Support Worker.

The recent Hopkins Golf Day was held at Meon Valley Marriott Hotel & Country Club on Thursday 30th June 2016 and despite a spell of bad weather the course was in excellent condition and it stayed warm and dry with shorts the order of the day!

Meon Valley Golf Club features an 18 hole championship course which is situated among an ancient Southampton oak forest, and offers tree-lined fairways, large bunkers and natural water hazards. The course has well designed character holes, exceptional “ironed” greens with food and hospitality to match. 48 players consisting of Clients, Suppliers and Hopkins staff thoroughly enjoyed the day.

Congratulations go to all the winners of the various competitions on the day and particularly the winning team who scored 85 points and comprised (L to R); Jon Wilson (Highwood Group), Jason Parker (Hopkins), Alex Hodge (Freedom Air) and Gareth Grover (Hopkins).

We thank everyone for attending and the feedback has been really positive, we look forward to next years event.
