Hopkins have a long history in supporting charities and sports clubs in the local community and this year is no different. Back in July 2021 Hopkins sponsored the newly formed Hedge End United FC Under 7’s who play the Eastleigh & District Mini Soccer league at Stoneham Park. Hedge End United are a well-established club with teams at most age groups from under 7’s through to under 14’s. The club’s ethos very much aligns with Hopkins with a focus on teamwork, respect, sportsmanship and playing with a smile on your face! Now the season is drawing to a close, we wanted to give you an update on the boys’ progress. The team have done amazing this season, from losing their first game 10–1, they are now holding their own in the top league and playing some great football at times. More importantly the boys are all playing with a smile on their faces and have become best of friends. A big well done to all the boys from us at Hopkins! ⚽️

Talk Mental Health launched their #385challenge fundraising event, which took place during Men’s Health Awareness Week (14th to 20th June) where they challenged people around the UK to attempt 385 of any physical activity during that week.

It was to raise awareness of men’s health, the impact such things as; Toxic Masculinity, is having on males of all ages and the over 385 men who die through suicide every month in the UK. Of the 6.500 people lost to suicide annually, 75% are men and it is the single biggest killer of men under the age of 45.

We are proud to sponsor the founder of Talk Mental Health and the #385challenge, Nick Wilson, who is currently undertaking a gruelling 385mile cycle as his #385challenge. Follow his story here: https://givepenny.com/talkmentalhealthuk_385challenge

We were delighted to spend some time with The Rainbow Centre this afternoon and watch an adult and child session in progress.

The work they carry out with Conductive Education and their positive approach in focusing on what a person can do rather than what they can’t do is truly amazing.

We were thrilled to be able to donate £800 to the charity, thanks to our successful golf day earlier in the year.

Further information regarding the charity and the amazing work they carry out can be found here https://www.rainbowcentre.org/

Following on from our support to local apprenticeship fairs at Portsmouth and Southampton Football Clubs earlier this year, J&B Hopkins have been supporting local schools to promote the benefits of apprenticeships and inspiring young people to take an exciting leap into the construction industry be it an electrician, plumber or to express their creative in design.

Why not take a few minutes and watch a recent apprenticeship video staring our very own Callum Harman, Electrical Apprentice and Phil Lambden, Managing Director – both sharing their views of apprenticeships and highlighting the importance of organisations opening up their doors and pathing the way for the future. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6EgGenXe57s

If you would like J&B Hopkins to support your careers fair please contact Charlotte Stevens on 01489 584706.

Letter received 10.08.18 from Corporate Fundraiser, Gemma Carden

Dear J&B Hopkins,

Whether we are caring for a patient’s well-being during the night, enabling local people to live well with their diagnosis, or supporting a child as they learn to cope with the loss of a loved one, Rowans Hospice will be there thanks to your decision to donate.

Your gift of £1000 in respect of your corporate golf day is very much appreciated and will be put to great use here at the Hospice, thank you. Your donation will help us to continue our care and services to the local community, free of charge.

As you may be aware, we have privately launched our Silver Jubilee Appeal, with the public launch on the 6th October at our annual open day. The appeal is an additional fundraising target of £7.5 million in total over three years to refurbish our Hospice, so the building matches the platinum service we offer our patients and visitors. If you would like more information about the Silver Jubilee Appeal, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Last year our supporters helped us to do some incredible things and we are truly grateful to have your support too. It has been 23 years since we first opened our doors and today we continue to provide care to local people thanks to the kindness of people like you.

Rowans Hospice provides a wonderful, caring environment for so many people, thank you for your support and belief in the work we do.

Yours Sincerely

Gemma Carden

Rowans Hospice is a local charity which provides specialist hospice care and support to patients with life-limiting illnesses, their relatives and carers, all care being free of charge.

Rowans has supported and continues to support our colleague, Vivien Banks and her family when her husband sadly passed away to cancer. As a company we wanted to show our support with a fundraising competition at our annual golf day to help raise money. Hopkins are proud to have raised a total sum of £1,000 pounds.

Tucked away in the gardens of Jacksplace sits a beautiful new wooden cabin, Jack’s Cabin, as it is called and is proving really popular with those cared for at the hospice for young adults. Featuring a television, bar and comfy seating, Jack’s Cabin is the perfect place in which they can relax with their favourite television show or catch up with friends.

Jacks cabin was built with help from B&Q and the Kier Group, and Hopkins were invited to be part of this special project by providing Mechanical and Electrical services comprising of small power, heating, decorative & emergency lighting and external taps.

In true Jacksplace fashion, the young people officially opened their new space with a lavish Hawaiian themed mocktail party.
