The project ‘Silicon Wharf’ has injected a new lease of life into the maritime industry in this area. The site has been developed as a remote operations and data center for robotic vessels, ensuring Woolston and the wider Solent area have a significant role in the next chapter of maritime development. Expansion of the UK control and data network and new training and development facilities will allow Ocean Infinity to train future operators and enable innovative & collaborative development with local universities and businesses.

Hopkins installed the full scope of Mechanical, Electrical and Plumbing services within the building, including full air conditioning and mechanical ventilation to all office areas. Our in-house data team worked closely with the client to ensure their specific requirements were met when designing and installing the data and security systems. We also worked closely with the wider design team and architect to ensure we met their aspirations in regards to aesthetics and coordination as a majority of the MEP services were exposed. Hopkins were contracted on a D&B basis to complete the site wide main panel and loose distribution switchgear.

The building is a fully air conditioned office facility utilising central mechanical ventilation and 4-pipe fan coil units. The project achieved an “Excellent” rating under BREEAM in part achieved by the innovative services design which Hopkins provided and included Photovoltaic Panels (PV), Solar Thermal and high efficiency Turbo Core Chillers. The PV panels on part of the south elevation and the flat roof form part of the 15% renewables strategy as does the energy efficient lighting.
