A landmark project located in Bristol’s city centre, the new building comprises 167 Premier Inn bedrooms, of which 9 are universally accessible, with a 184 cover Brewers Fayre restaurant at street level. Full mechanical installation utilising a Mitsubishi City Multi VRF system coupled with central supply and extraction system with heat recovery, serving all bedrooms and restaurant, contributing towards the energy rating in order to comply with current building regulations and Clients’ specification.

A Design & Build project to renovate an old grade 2 listed Air Force Officers Mess and separate Sports Hall to a new Free School for pupils aged 3 to 16 years. The client had a restricted budget and value engineering was an important part in the delivery of a quality education facility. Taking a concept design and developing it to a workable solution to suit the budget was the significant challenge for this project. Working in a listed building presents challenges and we were able to deliver the project on time and in keeping with the buildings heritage.
Complete M&E Services Design & Build for new 1800 pupil Secondary School, with refurbishment of existing Sports Hall building. We have taken the M&E design from initial concept (RIBA Stage 2) to construction ensuring full compliance with the EFA’s requirements and clients financial budget. Working closely with the consultants Energy Modeler to design M&E systems with the highest energy efficiency to meet the EFA’s stringent energy consumption criteria.
A “Centre of Excellence” for the research and development of specialist filters for process and life sciences industry based in Portsmouth. Many specialist and process services were installed to accommodate the clients bespoke requirements. Extensive liaising with each of the scientists was required to determine the end users exact requirements. Full laboratory ventilation and temperature control systems were installed to meet specialist demands including 17x fume cupboards.
The UTC Oxfordshire is a new build secondary and further education facility specialising in Science and Engineering serving approximately 600 pupils aged between 14 and 18. A fast track project with a period of 6 months for full M&E installation. The core concept of the project was high efficiency local heat recovery units and radiator circuits. The heating was supplied through high efficiency plant utilising gas absorption technology, this allowed us to meet our part L compliance targets.

A design and build mechanical services project to build a new Teaching Block for a private Primary Education Facility.
The project used Passivent pre-heated natural ventilation systems in conjunction with underfloor heating, heat recovery ventilation, domestic services and a stand alone plant room were all features of the project.
A new teaching and administration facility for the Creative and Cultural Institute Department of the University of Portsmouth. This D&B project utilised multi-service rafts which provided heating, cooling, lighting and acoustic requirements in order to meet the clients requirements of open plan teaching spaces.
Hopkins carried out a design & build contract for all mechanical, electrical and public health services on the development and were involved in the design from the initial planning application stage. The project achieved a “Very Good” rating under BREEAM in part achieved by the innovative services design Hopkins provided which included ground source heating.
